WORDCHUTE

About Wordchute

Wordchute is a free daily word strategy game. All 32 letters are visible from the start. Connect touching letters to make words, then plan around the letters that fall into place. The goal is to clear the entire chute.

How to play

  1. The lower 16 letters form the playable 4×4 board. The other 16 wait above it.
  2. Link at least three touching letters to make a word. Horizontal, vertical, and diagonal connections count. Use each tile only once per word.
  3. Accepted words disappear. The remaining letters fall straight down in their columns, bringing waiting letters into play.
  4. Clear all 32 letters to finish. If no valid word remains, the run ends.

Words are checked against a curated American-English word list. Not every dictionary word is accepted. Every daily board has multiple full-clear routes.

Play RATE along the numbered path. S drops two spaces and A drops one; T stays put. SAT lines up across the board.
Position and paths

This invented chute reads AMRN, LIOE, EDAC, USHP, LIAD, BTET, OANL, REIF from top to bottom. RATE starts at the bottom-left R, moves diagonally up-right to A, up to T, then right to E. The first three columns lose one, two and one tiles; the fourth stays fixed. After the drop, SAT reads left to right across the second row from the top of the playable board.

Why word order matters

Every word changes which letters touch next. Before playing one, look at the letters waiting above it and picture where they will land. A longer word earns more points, but it can leave fewer useful connections. Sometimes a shorter word sets up the next drop and keeps a full clear within reach.

Scoring and rankings

Each word earns 90 points for its first three letters, plus 70 for each additional letter. A full clear adds 900 points.

The global board ranks tiles cleared first, then score. Equal progress and score share a place. Finalization time only orders the display within a tie. Public rows show progress, score, run count, and word count. Played words and tile paths stay private.

Discovery stars

The first unassisted full clear of a board earns a gold star. The first discovery of each other unique unassisted full-clear route earns an orange star. Each adds 100 points.

Hints and retries

A hint reveals a valid next move. Show a solution ends the run and reveals a full-clear route. Either makes that run and later runs on the same board assisted and excludes them from rankings. Earlier unassisted results still count.

Restarting or undoing a move starts a new run from the chosen position.

Daily boards and streaks

Everyone gets the same daily board. A new board arrives at 5 a.m. New York time, following daylight saving time. Past boards stay playable, each with its own rankings.

A play streak counts days when you finish a run with at least one word on that day’s board before the next drop. Hints are allowed. A clear streak requires an unassisted full clear each day. Playing past boards cannot repair a missed streak day.

Your Stats shows your streaks, daily calendar, boards played, full clears, and discovery stars.

Frequently asked questions

How is Wordchute different from Wordle?

Wordle asks you to uncover a hidden word. Wordchute shows you every letter and asks you to plan a route that clears the board. Read the Wordchute vs Wordle comparison for the differences in rules and strategy.

Is Wordchute free?

Yes. Today and the three most recent past boards are free to play. Older boards are available with Wordchute Premium in the app.

Do I need an account?

No signup, email address, or password is needed. Wordchute saves your progress under an anonymous player identity. In your browser, a cookie keeps you connected to that identity.

Can I play previous daily puzzles?

Yes. Open Past boards for today and three recent past boards, free. Older boards are available in the app. Each board has its own rankings. Past boards do not count toward today’s streak.

Can I play Wordchute on my phone?

Yes. Get Wordchute for iOS or Android from the App Store or Google Play. To share progress with your browser, link the app to your browser player; installing the app alone does not transfer progress.

Fair play

The server validates moves and scores for ranked play. Automated requests are rate-limited. Please do not use solvers or another identity’s revealed solution to place ranked runs. Coarse action timing helps investigate abuse; speed alone is not proof of cheating. Fair-play violations may result in exclusion from public rankings.

Privacy

Wordchute saves progress under an anonymous player identity. Played words and paths are private. The website and apps also collect limited usage and diagnostic data. A limited US website ad pilot measures matching app-store badge clicks and first real accepted words from separate allowlisted ad landings without using native app analytics for advertising. Local preferences limit repeated gameplay tips; the apps also limit repeated reminder invitations.
